Northern Lights
The Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular and beautiful of nature's phenomena and is a sight that we should all experience at least once during our lifetime.In classic mythology, Aurora was the Roman goddess of the dawn; while "boreal" is a Latin word, meaning "north" – hence Aurora Borealis.
According to NASA, the Northern Lights will display at their greatest intensity since 1958 in 2012. This is due to the scientific phenomenon the Solar Maximum, which is on an 11-year cycle. Iceland is an ideal Northern Lights hunting destination, as the only place in the world where the lights can be seen throughout the whole country.
